Adam Bennati
Independent Music Supervisor for Film, TV, Ads, and Games

Bio:

As a teenager, Adam sat mesmerized during a screening of The Wizard of Oz perfectly synchronized with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. This pivotal moment evoked his fascination with the interplay of music and visuals in storytelling, and how a song has the potential to enhance, alter, and elicit new meaning from what's being seen. That spark led him to study film history in college and, later, develop a deep appreciation for both the creative and technical aspects of music supervision.

After earning his degree and a subsequent stint as a touring musician, Adam began a decade-long journey under the mentorship of renowned music supervisor Howard Paar. During this time, Adam crafted a versatile style, mastering the delicate balance between music and visual media across genres—from documentaries to thought-provoking dramas to intense psychological thrillers. His resume now includes over 50 credits in the music supervision realm, with standout projects like Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022), Larry Flynt for President (2021), I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020), 20th Century Women (2016), and Cobain: Montage of Heck (2015).

Over his career, he has also honed his craft and gained a keen understanding of the business side of the industry—connecting filmmakers with musical artists to create original music for productions, learning the best techniques to employ when dealing with on-camera music scenes, overseeing and balancing entire music budgets, and, of course, ensuring that every detail of selecting, negotiating, and licensing music is handled with precision and professionalism.

But music has always been more than just work for Adam—it's a passion that has fueled him for decades. Since the early 2000s, he's been a DJ, spinning records from the golden eras of rock—particularly the hard-hitting sounds of the '60s and '70s. Over the years, Adam has performed at bars, concerts, festivals, brand events, art openings, magazine parties, and more, in both New York City and Los Angeles.

In 2021, Adam brought his love of music discovery to a new venture: Ancient Grease Records. This archival record label shines a spotlight on rare and lesser-known music from around the globe. Through this endeavor, he combines his deep licensing know-how with his long-standing dedication to discovering lost musical gems. Adam's crate-digging skills have uncovered relics from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, including unreleased recordings from studio tape archives, impossibly rare private press records, and one-of-a-kind acetate demo discs—giving forgotten tracks new life.

Adam is ready to bring his expertise and enthusiasm to elevate your next project. Reach him here.
